Go Red for Women is crucial in driving local support to fund life saving research and to educate women. Though we have made great strides in the advancement of women's cardiovascular health, we still have far to go.  We need your help now so that our mothers, sisters and daughters have a chance to fight this silent killer. By sharing a commitment to speak up, spread the word and support the research, you can help save lives.

Another year, another month, another day...another opportunity to help save a life. It is my passion to help all women live longer and stronger. That is why my work with the American Heart Association continues. Serving as a NYC Board of Directors and Go Red for Women Executive Leadership member, my commitment to the AHA is to help save women’s lives from a disease that CAN BE prevented. In fact, 80% of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with awareness, education, and action. Healthy lifestyle changes like nutritious eating, exercise, blood pressure control, and stress management can all significantly reduce heart disease risk.

I’m thrilled to further my collaboration with the AHA for Year 3 of the Rose Caiola Healthy Food Access Project. The AHA’s mission is very near and dear to my heart – as is improving the health and well-being of the Bronx, my native community. With food insecurity being at an all-time high, I have continued my funding of the Norwood Farmstand, operated by GrowNYC, which allows for Bronx residents to have access to affordable, healthy, fresh fruits and vegetables on their tables. The funds also allow the Fresh Food Box Program at Project H.O.P.E. to continue, which enables Bronx residents to purchase primarily regionally grown produce well below retail prices.

We’ve added a new initiative this year, the Healthy Food Prescription Program. This initiative allows doctors to “prescribe” healthy food to hypertensive and other at-risk patients through Health Bucks, which can be redeemed at the Norwood Farmstand. We know that food is medicine, and adding this extra layer to our program can help us drastically change health outcomes in the borough.

To continue this type of work, I need your help. I am hoping you will stand alongside me by making a donation to my page. Your support helps ensure we can continue to fund cardiovascular research, support front line workers, address social inequities and barriers to healthcare, and help those in our communities who are disproportionately impacted by coronavirus, heart disease, and stroke.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Rose
