Without your commitment to our mission, we would be unable to do the things that we do. Please help us continue to fight America’s number 1 and number 4 causes of death, Heart Disease and Stroke.

Nearly one in three children and adolescents in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Overweight children have a 70-80 percent chance of being overweight adults. Among children today, obesity is causing a broad range of health problems including high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea, and elevated blood cholesterol. The American Heart Association Young Professionals are joining the efforts to fight #childhoodobesity. Besides going to research, a portion of the money we raise will be going to our AHA YP Teaching Garden Project. The AHA YPs will be working at a school in the NYC area to teach kids about healthy living through a fun, hands-on Teaching Garden. This Teaching garden will be one of many in the U.S. working to teach children in grades K-5 how to plant seeds, nurture growing plants, harvest, produce, and ultimately understand the value of good eating habits.

MY STORY
I have been involved with the American Heart Association in some capacity for more than six years and with the NYC Young Professionals for three years now.  I am honored to be co-chair for the AHA Red Ball.

When I was 24, due to extreme stress at work, I went to the doctor feeling as though I was going to have a heart attack.  I had to wear a heart monitor for two days and was told that I had an abnormal heart beat, my heart beats one beat faster than most, and due to my stress level at work the abnormality had really shown itself - I might not have ever known.  At that point I realized how vital it was to take care of my heart and body overall.  I had always been active, but am now even more aware of overall health.

Last year I completed an Ironman and this year am looking forward to an ultrarun and another marathon.  Life is great! Please join me in educating and helping others!  Amber :)
