Without your commitment to our mission, we would be unable to do the things that we do. Please help us continue to fight America’s number 1 and number 4 causes of death, Heart Disease and Stroke.

Nearly one in three children and adolescents in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Overweight children have a 70-80 percent chance of being overweight adults. Among children today, obesity is causing a broad range of health problems including high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea, and elevated blood cholesterol. The American Heart Association Young Professionals are joining the efforts to fight #childhoodobesity. Besides going to research, a portion of the money we raise will be going to our AHA YP Teaching Garden Project. The AHA YPs will be working at a school in the NYC area to teach kids about healthy living through a fun, hands-on Teaching Garden. This Teaching garden will be one of many in the U.S. working to teach children in grades K-5 how to plant seeds, nurture growing plants, harvest, produce, and ultimately understand the value of good eating habits.

Thirty is the New Twenty right?

If this is the case, why do I hear stories about people in their 30's and even some in their 20's dying from Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)!  This is not supposed to happen but the truth of the matter is heart disease affects so many people and many of them do not even know it.  I am also very concerned with the growing number of cases within the African American community.

If Cardiovascular Disease can happen to someone my age or younger then it can happen to me; especially since my family has a history of high blood pressure.

I decided it was time for me to take action and not just educate myself about heart health but to share awareness and prevention with my family, friends and anyone I can get to listen.

Please join me in the fundraising effort for the American Heart Association Young Professionals NYC.
