Without your commitment to our mission, we would be unable to do the things that we do. Please help us continue to fight America’s number 1 and number 4 causes of death, Heart Disease and Stroke.

Nearly one in three children and adolescents in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Overweight children have a 70-80 percent chance of being overweight adults. Among children today, obesity is causing a broad range of health problems including high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea, and elevated blood cholesterol. The American Heart Association Young Professionals are joining the efforts to fight #childhoodobesity. Besides going to research, a portion of the money we raise will be going to our AHA YP Teaching Garden Project. The AHA YPs will be working at a school in the NYC area to teach kids about healthy living through a fun, hands-on Teaching Garden. This Teaching garden will be one of many in the U.S. working to teach children in grades K-5 how to plant seeds, nurture growing plants, harvest, produce, and ultimately understand the value of good eating habits.

Stephanie Mattera's Story
Please join the American Heart Association in its mission to promote heart healthy living and heart disease prevention through education.

In February 2007, I was at work when I received a call that my mother was in the hospital for an emergency angioplasty procedure because a main artery was 95% blocked. My mother had experienced flu-like symptoms for months and no one knew her symptoms were the signs of heart disease. Her father had passed away from a heart attack at the age of 54, but the signs of heart disease manifest differently in women. Our family was blessed to have a close friend that was a former nurse. She recognized the symptoms and recommended that my mother see a Cardiologist. That decision saved her life!

M
y relationship with my mother has taught me about friendship, love, and living life to the fullest.  Each day with her is a gift!
