Since 2004, The AHA’s signature women’s initiative, Go Red for Women, has increased women’s heart health awareness and served as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. It’s about all women making a commitment to stand together, taking charge of their own heart health as well as the health of those they can’t bear to live without. We are fighting for better representation in medical research. Fighting for equitable access to care and treatments. Fighting to spread lifesaving information. Fighting to overcome the fact that cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women.
Now we face new challenges as the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionally affected our diverse communities, in particular women, magnifying disparities that have long existed. Women have taken on a lot of burden during the pandemic. Money, work, family, health and a never-ending to-do list all add to women’s stress.
Go Red for Women is committed to meeting the needs of women now, at every age, every stage, every season as their trusted, relevant source for credible, equitable health solutions. As we head into the new year we will help women reclaim their rhythm by walking hand in hand with them on their health journey. For any woman who has felt slightly off-center during the pandemic, now is the time to reclaim their routine and the things that matter most: health, family, friends, and the rhythm of their life! While they take care of the hearts of those around them, we’re here to take care of theirs. Why? Because losing even one woman is too many.
Each year, the New York City Go Red for Women movement inspires women to live fierce, to raise awareness and to help embolden all who call New York City home to make health a priority.
The time is now. The need is real. Our strength is unmatched. There is no greater, more relentless force in the world than women united with passion and purpose.
They transcend age, race, industry and geography to raise awareness of women’s No. 1 health threat: cardiovascular diseases. Meet the 2021 Go Red for Women Real Women — a sisterhood of survivors who passionately share their personal experiences with heart disease and stroke to empower women to lower their cardiovascular risk.
We honor these fiercely fabulous women, and we thank them for supporting our mission: To be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.
